Digital Photography Top 100 Tips & Tricks, published by Wiley Publishing Inc ($19.99),
and written by Gregory Georges, gives the reader simplified techniques on how to properly
use a digital camera. It was written with the understanding that the reader already has
a basic knowledge of digital photography. But don’t worry if you only have a basic
knowledge of 35MM photography, most of the same techniques apply to a digital camera and
you can easily follow the Tips & Tricks..
This book talks about the top 100 interesting and useful tasks you can perform with a
digital camera. The camera referenced in this book is the Canon Powershot G2, but the
features are mostly the same on any digital camera, depending on the camera. The book is
divided into 10 chapters, each dealing with different techniques, (i.e. CONTROL EXPOSURE,
DEPTH OF FIELD, SHOOTING IN GOOD LIGHT, etc.) and is 220 pages in length. Each chapter
lists several Tips & Tricks in an easy to follow format and walks you through each Tip or
Trick using a step-by-step approach. At the bottom of each page are several photos showing
what that Tip or Trick is talking about, and for each Tip or Trick, there is a quick
reference guide showing the difficulty level of that Tip or Trick ranging from 1 to 4, with
4 being the most difficult. However, most of the techniques fall within the 1 or 2 range.
The last 4 chapters of the book deal with editing a photo or making special projects using
your photo. It shows secrets and timesaving tricks when using the image editing software:
Adobe Photoshop Elements. While it does show some Tips & Tricks using Adobe Photoshop
Elements, Wiley Publishing has 2 separate books dealing with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and
Photoshop “X”..
I found the book easy to read and would recommend this book to anyone switching from a
35MM camera to a digital camera. However, if you are an “expert” 35MM photographer, this
book is not for you, as you already know about most of these Tips & Tricks. One area of
disappointment was the photos at the bottom of the page. While they were informative, most
showed different scenes, so you could not compare or see the difference the Tip or Trick
made. All in all though, this book is still worth buying.
