Have
you ever spent a half an hour or more trying to figure out how to do something
in PowerPoint? If so, PowerPoint 2000/98 for Windows & Macintosh
by Rebecca Bridges Altman is just what the doctor ordered.
Altman specializes in corporate training, course development and technical writing. She has written software books about Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT, Microsoft Works, PageMaker 6, Understanding Harvard Graphics for Windows and Using 1-2-3. Altman¹s book is easy to read and could be used for beginner and
also as a reference. Topics are easily located in the Table of Contents.
It did a fine job of introducing PowerPoint and offers a quick-read tour
in
The book would be most useful for beginners, although is did explain a few of intermediate tasks. Chapters 10 through 11 offer great insight into graphical objects and their placement. Making global changes is covered in Chapter 12. Two must-read sections covering working in Outline and Slide Sorter Views aren't covered till Chapters 13 and 14 respectively. Altman's book wraps up with two chapters offering details on producing a slide show and presentation output including printing directions. The final chapter covers interesting capabilities on presenting on the Internet. The last chapter even gets into interactive presentation including creating a web page and scheduling broadcast presentations. Something new I learned was that broadcast presentations provide the option for viewers to e-mail questions and comments during a show. While the illustrations in the book strongly support the explanations, the strongest asset of Altman's book is the concise writing style and easy to locate subject matter. Both of which make it quick and easy to find answers. Overall, Altman¹s book covers the PowerPoint essentials, and is a well written reference guide for beginners. Priced at $17.99, PowerPoint 2000/98 for Windows & Macintosh covers all a beginner needs to know with a few extras for the intermediate in 319 pages. The book's ISDN # is 0-201-35441-1 and its published by Kimberly Bird is an Account Executive at Willis Case Harwood Marketing and Communications in Dayton, Ohio. Ms. Bird shares in her family's enthusiasms for computers and is the niece of PCAlamode's Editor, Clarke Bird. |
