flat-bed scanners come bundled with a “lite” version of photo-editing software
or a copy utility which allows the user to make a B&W or color photocopy.
My UMAX flatbed scanner came bundled with UMAX Copier and I used it several
times each month to make photocopies of invoices and ad payment checks
relating to PC Alamode magazine. Over time, apparently the program
became corrupted as it would freeze in the process of copying a document.
Not only would the program seize, it would freeze any other program that
I happened to have open at the time. This quickly became a major irritant.
I reinstalled the scanner software (including UMAX Copier) which seemed to solve the problem for a couple of months, then it began to exhibit freezing again. I had enough of that mess. I remember seeing an ad for photocopy software in one of the desktop
publishing catalogs that I receive and it took me a while to locate the
right publication and find the ad. There it was: Art-Copy 3.0 for $39.95.
The description looked similar to the UMAX Copier with all the button functions
of an office photocopier.
I downloaded the program to discover that it was a 30-day trial and that I would have to pay $19.95 to activate the program after the trial period was over. I’ve used the copier function of Art-Copy 3.0 several times and I’m pleased with it. And my logic is, $19.95 is $20 less expensive than the catalog price and $40 less than the most current version, so I’m going to write a check for $19.95 at the end of September and keep making copies. Art-Copy 3.0 can be downloaded.
