Software Review of:
lxla Explorer
1.2

From the January, 2000 issue of PC Alamode Magazine

ixla Explorer is a tool for organizing and managing your graphics files. Simply view your images from thumbnails stored in your database. At the manufacturer's list price of $29.95, and possible lower, street price, it is a relatively inexpensive gadget.

ixla Explorer has extensive cataloging features so you can easily organize and then view all of your multimedia items such as photos, clipart, video and audio quickly and easily from your computer, digital camera, scanner or CD.

My introduction to ixla Explorer consisted of the 24 page "Getting Started" manual and a CD in the hot little hands of Larry Grosskopf, Software Review Coordinator. ixla Explorer 1.2 is designed for Windows 95 and NT 4.0 and will not run on Windows 3.x machines.

Instructions throughout the manual were easy for me to comprehend and installing the CD-ROM was easily accomplished. Uninstalling is just going to the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel. The manual walks you through acquiring images from your digital camera so you can browse and then download selected photos directly into your computer. ixla Explorer directly supports most digital cameras and the Readme section identifies 39 of them and they indicate they will add more. View their web site for revisions.

ixla Explorer supports all popular scanners. TWAIN is used to transfer scanned images into ixla Explorer. I have a Minolta Dimage Dual Scan and it worked fine for me. In other words, the TWAIN was on da wight TWACK.

Requirements: Intel i486 or Pentium processor or equivalent, Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, 8MB Ram (16MB or higher recommended), hard disc with at least 15MB free space, CD ROM drive, 256 color or higher graphics card (16 bit or higher recommended), sound card (recommended). Windows compatible printer and TWAIN compatible scanner are optional.

Through all of this I kept wondering who is ixla? The answer is Imaging eXceLlence for All. They must have stayed up nights for that one. Their address is:

    ixla USA
    17 Jansen Street
    Danbury CT. 06810.
