WinWay Resume
Software Review by Carroll Yeatts

WinWay Resume Box photoHave you ever wondered if your resume was as good as it could be? Or, why did they ask that question? Or, how should I go about getting that raise? WinWay Resume by WinWay Corporation may be able to help you answer these and other job search questions.

WinWay Resume comes in two types of media: a 3.5" disk and a CD-ROM. System requirements for the single 3.5" disk are:

  • A 386 Processor, or higher
  • Windows 95 or Windows 3.x
  • 2 MB of memory
  • 2.5 MB of free disk space
System requirements for the CD-ROM are:

  • A 386 processor or higher
  • Windows 95 or Windows 3.x
  • 4 MB of memory
  • 2.5 MB of free disk space
  • 256-color VGA or SVGA display
  • Double-speed CD-ROM drive, or faster
  • A sound card
The installation of the CD-ROM version of the program went very smoothly. The CD-ROM version contains video and sound information in regards to interview and salary negotiation techniques that I though would be helpful. The program is graphical user interface based and was very simple to operate. The instructional booklet was quite simple and straightforward in presentation with a lot of screen formats.

One of the more impressive aspects of WinWay Resume is its AutoWritertm; capability. AutoWriter is found in both the resume and letter development function. In both instances, WinWay has put together selected sentences for the resume areas and letter that you must fill in with information. For example:

Acted as a liaison between <who> and <who>.
Applied knowledge of <what> and <what>.
Assisted subordinates and supervisors in identifying and resolviing problems.
Letters and resumes can be printed in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Worls, Lotus, and other word processors. Resume information can also be cut-and-pasted into other Windows applications.

Another feature of the program is its sample capability. Before you develop that letter or resume, you really need to go into the samples area of the program. Samples are broken out in a number of ways. First, by profession or career situation, then by category (for example, Sales and Management) and lastly by sample (i.e., Sales Manager.) The examples that follow allow you to change font size, font type, colors, formas and borders to get the look that you want for your resume.

The most interesting areas to me were within the video and interview areas of the CD. The video information was a series of briefings on resumes and letters subdivided into 20 topics, interview techniques subdivided into 16 topics and salary and benefits issues subdivided into 12 topics.

Each topic under each area was selectable. Therefore, you did not have to wade through everything to get the specific information that you wanted or needed.

But the best part was in the interview area! I have often wondered why interviewers asked certain questions or what the meaning was of a certain question. The interview area of WinWay Resume does a great job of asking the question, giving a hint/explanation of the question and a suggested answer.

I believe that both the video area and interview areas will help anyone to improve their job hunting skills. Just review the areas carefully and put the suggestions into action. Along with hard copy capabilities, WinWay Resume allows you to send letters and resumes over the Internet, by fax and electronic mail. The street price for the software is $40.00.

I recommend that before you start that next job search you sit down with WinWay Resume. Go through the interview and video information and rework your resume and cover letters. I believe it will help tremendously.
