Write,
Camera, Action is a CD based game for kids' ages 8 - 12, and is part of
Brøderbund's
Active Mind Series. The game is designed to develop reading and expressive
writing.
The game begins as you arrive at the Golden Fox Studios after the former director was booted out. You are expected to be the director, the script writer, and the publicist for your upcoming movie premiere. I took the guided tour of the studio lot because Bailey, my assistant, suggested it. You are never far from help; I don't think I was ever left alone. The graphics were nicely done, and I enjoyed the tour.
I started out in the Back Lot where you complete the script and film the movie. The Maltese Malcolm was the movie that needed to be completed, it is a mystery, and I got right to work. I completed the scenes and then viewed them in the Screening Room, it was just like being a real director. I finished the movie and went to the Studio Office to create publicity for my movie. The Premiere is where you get to watch the movie with the whole audience. My movie was fun to watch, I asked the whole family to come and see it, everyone enjoyed it, even the dog.
I went back and changed a few things in the script, the whole movie came out differently. The mystery of the Maltese Malcolm has an ending that will surprise you every time.
I have the following suggestion to anyone who uses this program for the first time; when you are using the script pull down boxes hold the mouse button down until you select the text you want. I had difficulty selecting the text I wanted until I began holding down the mouse button. I found the program enjoyable and it was sometimes hard to stop playing.
My dad installed the program for me, and had a few problems. We e-mailed Brøderbund technical support on the evening of September 4th and received a response September 12th. We didn't want to pay for a phone call so we waited patiently for the e-mail support. If you are in a hurry, or don't want to wait too long you can call Brøderbund. My dad said he will never promise that a program he brings home will be up and running that day, problems do happen. Our problem was traced to a video driver. It took my dad a couple days to figure that out, but he had it fixed by the time technical support contacted us.
