This
program has the same basic requirements for installation as the others
do but it requires 4 MB hard drive space. The handbook contains a Users
Guide with a Parents Corner to help you help the child learn. The tips
are clever and should work well and help reinforce what the program shows.
My sound card was not supported by this program so I can't testify as to the quality of the music, but Broderbunds reputation in this area is wonderful.
The program has several sections designed to help learn various skills. The kitchen where James is found is a great place to see him read a book "James Makes A Salad" which helps teach counting and makes it fun. The salad is FUNNY!
The TV plays nursery rhymes and you select them by clicking on the channel selector. The number sing-alongs help reinforce numbers and counting as well.
The Refrigerator Magnets allow you to match shapes and to create pictures using the "magnets". You can see ones that James made and try to reconstruct them as well as just rearrange them as you wish. The colors are great and it is a good way to learn to use the mouse as well as matching the shapes.
The clock game teaches how to tell time. The Dijeridoo, the digital robot, is a lot of help in this game and you can help the kids learn time by positioning the hands and watching the scenes change.
There are other games and sections that teach shapes, how to estimate and measure various lengths of unusual critters and things, a face game to help match items such as ears to a clown face, the fruit shop for adding items and matching shapes, the blocks game for adding and subtracting numbers and the magic carpet for creating colorful patterns on the carpet and you can print the shapes as well.
This program lists for $34.95 and is also worth it if your child
is having trouble grasping the basics of math. It teaches as the child
enjoys the games and that is one of the best ways to learn.
