7th Level, Inc. produces some of the nicest software for children that
I've seen since my grandkids started getting interested in Grandpaws' computer.
Tuneland is one CD-ROM that will easily entertain the kids and is aimed
at the ones from three to six. It hits this target easily.
The box contains the CD-ROM, instructions, a cassette tape containing all the tunes and an activity book so the kids can become more familiar with the characters while you do your thing on the computer.
Installation was quite easy - just put the CD-ROM in the drive, select install and it does the rest automatically. You need, as a minimum, a 386-25 with 4 MB of RAM, SVGA, and about 500K of hard drive space. A sound card and a mouse are also necessary for this program.
Howie Mandel has a funny laugh and it shows up in the darndest places as you move through the various "lands" in Tuneland. He is the star, but I sort of suspect that the kids will have no idea who he is. The adults will get a laugh out of him, so it all works out well.
There are 42 different tunes on the cassette tape and the songs are scattered throughout the various lands in Tuneland. Every time you click on an object, something happens and it usually happens to music. The kids will be delighted.
For the parents, just some advice - some of the musicians are "Pink Floyd", "Doobie Brothers", "Yes" and "Tower of Power". The music MOVES!
For those with power speakers hooked into your computer BEWARE - you will be able to rattle the walls with some awesome music.
Howie serves as the guide to the lands and tells jokes, falls down and amuses the youngsters. The CD-ROM is especially nice since play can be automatic or you can select the lands to visit. The whole operation shows that 7th Level does have programs tested by children for children.
To sum it up - beautiful graphics, playful tunes, wacky Howie and an easy program for the small ones to enjoy.
