It requires IBM or compatible PC with PAF 2.2/2.31, Ancestral Quest or Family Origins 3.0 and Word Perfect 5.0 or later and is available on 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 diskettes. It is a DOS program.
It is available from: Clement Custom Programming, 2105 Country Lane, Auburn CA 95603, ph 916-889-8801 at a cost of $59.95 which includes shipping. Rex Clement is the author. The manual lists no information regarding technical support.
After your genealogy research has been entered into PAF, GEN-BOOK
can extract the information and format in into a WordPerfect file - DOS
or Windows (and then convert to MS Word or other top of the line word processor).
The family history information in put into book format, and the program
automatically generates a Title Page, Table of Contents, Chapter Headings
and Name Index. You can generate a book of the descendants or ancestors
of any person in your PAF database. Beginners can create a complete book
from their data by answering a list of questions. Advanced word processing
users can use the capabilities of that program to manipulate the text at
will. You can add pictures, maps, scanned images, change the size and style
of the print, the page layout, etc. You can insert a blank line to indicate
missing data. An advantage of this program is that it automatically inserts
an index tag for each name. WordPerfect can then scan through the document
and generate a two- or three- column name index with the names listed alphabetically
by given name under a common surname. A plus factor is that a married woman
appears in under both her maiden and married names.

GEN-BOOK offers the following genealogy numbering systems: Register, Henry, Descendancy, Ahnentafel, Multi-Surname and Sequential. You have the option to exclude certain families or individuals; include the PAF title field, ID field, RIN number and source notes. Source notes may print as Footnotes, Endnotes, or in-line with the other notes. Importing notes from the database will require editing as many PAF notes are not formatted for direct importation. For non-Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) members, there is an option to turn off the fields particular to LDS church ordinances.
GEN-BOOK has an automated option for formatting to 6"x9" paper if you are preparing a volume for commercial publication. Another useful option is the "Multiple Starts" if you plan to include more than one ancestral line.
This is a DOS program and Windows users will find it not as intuitive
as programs made for Windows. The manual is fairly complete and easily
readable. The program was easy to install and created a 10 generation,
"single start" ancestor line, 84 pages in length, in just a few minutes.
However, major editing was required in order to make the "notes" readable.
There was a problem transferring some of the "notes" for each individual
over from the PAF data.
