Kiyeko And The Lost Night
by Greg Lundblade
(with help from Kirk Lundblade, age 7, and Alina Lundblade, age 5)

product boxTeachers receive plenty of mail each year advertising new instructional techniques and aides. Students today are becoming more technologically responsive to our multimedia efforts. For this reason I was looking for a program to help my own children learn to read, and to also gain a few more computer skills. This program is designed for children as a fun way to help learn to read. As a scene of the story is narrated, the text at the top of the screen is highlighted. This highlight feature would also be helpful for a person with a reading disability. This program does not drag. A child can use it and forget that he/she is getting help. The user can click on various objects in each scene. The "response" is entertaining and unpredictable.

This program can also be helpful for foreign language instruction. The same animated story can be told in German, French, Italian, and Spanish. You can easily move back and forth between languages. The foreign text is also highlighted as it is narrated. It is interesting even for an adult language learner with a sense of humor and adventure.

Kiyeko And The Lost Night passed my childrens' test. My five year old did not find it too complicated. My seven year old son found it fun to play with. They ask me now for permission to play the program. Ubi Soft Corp has a hit, and has similar programs in the works. Check out their home page on the net. My kids and I give this program 3 of 4 jalapenos. Enjoy!
