The Internet Health, Fitness & Medicine Yellow Pages
by Matthew Naythons, M.D. and Anthony Catsimatides
review by David Savage

The great success of Harley Hahn's Internet Yellow Pages coupled with the explosive growth of the World Wide Web has led Osborne, McGraw-Hill to begin a series of "yellow pages" beginning with this special edition.

From addiction to zoology and most topics, it serves as a great starting point to find an internet source of health information. The layout, is easy on the eyes as it combines information in text and site "teasers" with illustrations reminiscent of the 1903 Sears Catalog.

In addition to URL's, ftp, gopher and telnet sites are noted. There are extensive listings of support groups throughout. Definitely politically correct, alternative medicine, euthanasia, herbs and massage sites are listed as well as government, academic, research, and commercial resources.

Spanning 346 pages, an appendix of hospitals and medical schools on the web is included along with a 10 page index.

The web is dynamic, sites come and go. A few sites mentioned were no more, but the same missing sites are still noted as current on Yahoo. Conspicuous in it's absence was the lack of any listing for aerobics, a hot topic on the net with many sites.

Overall, it's a decent guide. Use it as a tour guide for topics of interest since the May sweeps are gone and the boob tube has returned to it's usual endless stream of re-runs.
