The author(s) have written dozens of books and training materials covering a wide variety of computer and software topics. The skill level guide indicates it is for all users. The layout includes an alphabetical reference of all features and a cross-referenced index for finding specific items. The style is straight forward, inserting notes and figures to explain and illustrate the text. There are also tips for keystrokes vs. mouse, Alt and Function key shortcuts, as well as “ready for more” icons referring to a Word features that are more advanced than the basics offered in the chapter you’re now in.
The material is organized to read in either a logical progression or with an alphabetical reference of all features, including a cross referenced index for finding the exact information. Every feature, menu item, command, and function is described and an example given on every topic.
The book does not include a disk, but Word 7 has enhanced capabilities, online help, and wizards that earned it the Editor’s Choice of the top 10 programs reviewed in the 21 Nov. 95 Word Processing edition of “PC Magazine”. I like the organization and content of this book and will keep it within reach while word processing.
It’s hard to imagine what, if anything, is missing and by the time any
deficiency is noted, Word ? will be out and another reference book review
will be in order. The back cover says “The Only Guide to Word for Windows
95 You’ll Ever Need” and they may be right.
